MICHELIN STARS
Bōm is a Michelin-starred “restaurant within a restaurant” at Oiji Mi. Run by chef Brian Kim with interior design by AvroKO, the chef’s counter serves a progressive Korean tasting menu and focuses on a guest experience that is sensory, intimate and exclusive. As executive architect, DBA navigated and solved the challenges of the small space — 600-square-feet with 20 seats surrounding the chef’s counter — including the seamless marriage between front and back of house. With the food preparation in full performative view, elements that would typically be out of sight required a refined treatment and careful concealment.

Central to the dramatic experience bōm offers, DBA designed custom table grills set into the dining counter. These feature a downdraft exhaust system elegantly hidden within the millwork, enabling the complex mechanical systems to operate perfectly without disrupting the thoughtfully curated design and atmosphere of the space. On the chef’s side of the bar, this millwork is in stainless steel to accommodate the chef’s equipment, reflecting DBA’s approach of blending architecture and technical expertise to develop a solution that meets the aesthetic and practical needs of the client.
